Innkeeper Barbara Gookin brings a fresh approach to The Centerboard Inn. Barbara has lived year-round on Nantucket Island for 25 years and has been very involved in the local community. A creative person by nature, Barbara studied fine arts in Maryland before moving to Fukushima Japan to teach english for a year. Upon her return, she attended Parson’s School of Design in New York. After a ten-year career in publishing, Barbara moved to Nantucket where she took the helm as art director of Nantucket Magazine. She has provided marketing, advertising and design services for many island organizations, retailers and publishers. Most recently, Barbara became art director of Nantucket Home Magazine.
With experience as a food columnist for an island newspaper, Barbara also wrote and designed the cookbook “Harvesting Nantucket— The Taste of Bartlett’s Ocean View Farm.” ChefTalk.com called the book “enchanting” and awarded a rating of five out of five stars, ranked it #1 in the northeast region and #2 of all Regional & International Cookbooks. She is currently creating another book full of island history, her beautiful photography and delicious recipes.
